Using Integrated Web Apps
Integrated Web Apps in Witsy allow you to embed your favorite AI web interfaces—like ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity—directly into the Witsy dashboard. This enables you to switch between local/API-driven models and official web platforms without leaving the application.
Adding a Web App
To integrate a new web service into your workspace:
- Open Settings and navigate to the Web Apps section.
- Click Add Web App.
- Enter the following details:
- Name: A display name (e.g., "ChatGPT").
- URL: The full address (e.g.,
https://chatgpt.com). - Icon: Choose an icon to identify the app in your sidebar.
- Ensure Enabled is toggled on.
- Save your changes. The app will now appear in your Witsy sidebar.
Navigating the Web Interface
Each Web App runs in an isolated, secure container. When you select a Web App from the sidebar:
- Navigation Toolbar: Hover near the top of the webview to reveal the toolbar. Use the Back and Forward buttons to navigate your browsing history within that specific app.
- Refresh: Use the reload button in the toolbar to refresh the current page.
- External Links: By default, clicking links that lead away from the main app domain will open in your system’s default browser to keep your Witsy workspace focused.
Recipe: Running Multiple Sessions
Witsy uses "Persistent Partitions" for each web app. This means:
- Saved Logins: Once you log into a service (like Claude.ai), you will stay logged in even after restarting Witsy.
- Isolation: Sessions are isolated by app name. You can add two different "ChatGPT" web apps with different names if you need to maintain two separate accounts simultaneously.
Advanced Configuration
Bypassing Bot Detection
Witsy automatically "cleans" its User Agent string. It removes tags like Witsy and Electron so that web providers see the connection as a standard Chrome or Safari browser. This ensures maximum compatibility with sites that might otherwise block embedded browsers.
Spell Check
Witsy integrates with your system's spell checker. To toggle this for a specific web app:
- Right-click within the Web App view.
- Select Enable/Disable Spell Check from the context menu.
Opening External Links
If you prefer that all links (even external ones) open inside the Witsy webview instead of your default browser:
- Go to the Web App configuration in Settings.
- Toggle the Open links in external browser option to
Off.
Common Usage Scenarios
Side-by-Side Comparison
Use Web Apps to compare the output of an API-based model (in a Witsy Chat) with the official web version (in a Web App).
- Open a standard Chat in Witsy and ask your question.
- Click your ChatGPT Web App in the sidebar.
- Paste the same prompt to compare formatting, speed, and specific web-only features like "Search" or "Advanced Voice."
Using Web-Only Tools
Some AI tools offer features not yet available via API (like Claude's "Artifacts" or ChatGPT's "Canvas"). By adding these as Web Apps, you can utilize these UI-heavy features while keeping your AI workflow centralized in one desktop application.
